Description:  Everyday. Here is the first of two successive original telephoto views that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 3 September 1965. Prominent here is PRR engine #7924, an ES-12 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. It is pulling the five-car "Roaring Spring Local" under the southern end of the Union Street Bridge on its way through Hollidaysburg to the Altoona Yards. The cabin car is #477094. Photo taken near the eastern end of the PRR's Freight Station on South Juniata Street.

Description:  Everyday. Here is the second of two successive original telephoto views that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 3 September 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #7924, an ES-12 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. It is pulling the five-car "Roaring Spring Local" through Hollidaysburg on its way to the Altoona Yards along with N-5 caboose #477094. Visible in the near distance are the railroad bridge over the West Branch of the Juniata River and the PRR's Passenger Station. Visible in the far distance are some of the Allegheny Mountains which, seemingly, cradle the Borough of Hollidaysburg. Photo taken near the western end of the PRR's Freight Station on South Juniata Street.

Description:  Everyday. Here is an image of a color photo (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, c. 1966. Shown here is the pedestrian walkway on the Union Street Bridge. The Bridge spans the Pennsylvania Railroad's freight yards at this point, but was demolished in 1966 upon completion of the new Penn Street/Route 36 bridge. Incidentally, the two tracks in the foreground occupy the original right-of-way of the Allegheny Portage Railroad (c. 1840).

Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8505 and another SW-1 whose number is not recorded. #8505 was built by GM-EMD as number "9205" in April of 1949, rated at 600 horsepower, and renumbered "8505" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. Dominating the distance is a portion of the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop.

Shown here is the PC's Maintenance-of-Way Office/Bunk Car, located at the very eastern end of South Juniata Street. This looks like a Pullman-built car that has been put-up on two stacks of railroad ties. Perhaps it saw better days during the long-gone "Age of Steam"!

In the foreground is the Railroad Bridge over the Juniata River. Behind it is the US Route 22 Highway Bridge over the Juniata, and behind that (though not visible) is the Allegheny Street Bridge over the River ~ which flows from right to left. Also visible on the left are the crossing gates for the Bedford Street Crossing, as well as the PC's Passenger Station beyond them.

Shown here is Brush Run as it enters the tunnel under the Westbound Classification Yard on its way to flowing into the West Branch of the Juniata River a short distance away. Also visible is Pennsylvania Railroad gondola #343466. The Yard and this waterway tunnel were completed around 1902, some 70 years earlier! Photo taken just South of US Route 22.

Description:  Everyday. Here is an original 35mm color slide by E. Roy Ward that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 24 April 1976. Shown here is recently-repainted Conrail engine #1862, an F7A built by GM-EMD for the New York Central Railroad as number "1862" in October of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. This unit was heavily damaged during the Summer of 1975, but had been returned to service by the time this photo was taken. Along with another GM-EMD product, it's poised to haul a train of newly-repaired freight cars to Altoona and elsewhere. Visible in the distance are Hollidaysburg's historic "Chimney Rocks."

All were built by GM-EMD. #7870 is a GP38 built in January of 1971 as Penn Central number "7870" and then owned by Conrail under the same road number. Their crew is preparing to pull a mixed-consist freight train to Altoona and elsewhere.

Also visible in the center is Conrail's Hollidaysburg Car Shop; it was built in 1955 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and christened the "Samuel Rea Shop." This stretch of track is actually the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad, active between 1834 and 1856.
