Long Line Of Tank Cars |
Description: |
The TC&W regularly "blocks" cars for it's trains on the line it shares with the Canadian Pacific from Hopkins to St. Louis Park. Here we have a long line of tanks cars for the unit ethanol trains that run on this line sitting patiently waiting for their motive power. In the distance is the bridge on the CP's former Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern line that crosses the corridor that is split between the old Milwaukee Road and the old Minneapolis and St. Louis mainline, now a rail trail. |

Dual-Flags Crossing Excelsior Boulevard |
Description: |
An brace of 38-2's -one ex-Soo, the other ex-Soo/MILW back on home rails this day- cross Excelsior Boulevard pushing three full Soo hoppers full of ballast as the 0630 job makes an appearance on the old Milwaukee Road before returning to the old MNS mainline in St. Louis Park. Last I saw of them, the crew was pulling up onto the spur track across from the Depot Coffehouse on the Three Rivers trail where two empty Soo hoppers sat parked (along with a track scale car which has been there for weeks. Not coupled to any of the other freight cars that have been parked there.) The ballast was apparently for MOW work. All in all, this was a pleasant surprise catch. Note "Milwaukee Street" on the streelight. This street borders the ex-Milwuakee CP/TCW line from Exclesior Blved to down by the 169 overpass. Where it becomes another street going south. |

First Catch Of 2009!!!! |
Description: |
Here is a westbound BNSF general freight thundering through Long Lake on a delightful unseaonally mild last day of January. For power, the crew has a quartet of GE's at their disposal. Catching this train marks the start of the 2009 railfan season for me. |

ES44's Waitin' |
Description: |
Stopped by red signals, the unseen crew of a westbound general freight waits patiently beneath gloomy March skies with a brace of ES44ACs for power. Since the highway 12 bypass (i.e. "new 12") is now open, I had to hang back by the fence at an emergency access gate to get this shot in a gap between traffic passing east to west. While doing so, the Doobie Brothers tune "Long Train Runnin'" was chugging along on my MP3 player. Get down, man. |

Herzog MOW Train? |
Description: |
This appears to be a whole self-contained Herzog MOW train hitching a ride on this eastbound BNSF manifest. Anyone know what it does? |

North And West Side Of The Station |
Description: |
Here is a view of both the north and the west side of the Wazyata depot. The Chamber of Commerce occupies the western half. The Wayzata Historical Society the eastern. Thank goodness this gem survived the end of passenger service and still stands by an active rail line. In this case the old Great Northern mainline. |

Racing By The Flow Of Autos |
Description: |
The eastbound bareta`le job with NS power at the disposal of the BNSF crew races effortlessly pgst the flow of auots going east and west on the Highway 12 bypass. The border between Orono/Long Lake is in the distance at the Willow Drive bridge. Once this train got to Minneapolis, thare would be a crew change at Boom!Island before the train continued on to it's destination. |

Cedar Lake Junction Today |
Description: |
Here is what Cedar Lake Junction, once home of the Cedar Lake shops of the Minneapolis and St. Louis, looks like today. One track, but a track that still beats with life. As the red signals at the junction with the BNSF Wayzata sub demonstrates. |
