The "Stanford Fleming"
Title:  The "Stanford Fleming"
Description:  Theater car "Stanford Fleming" is, perhaps fittingly, the car that is bringing up the markers on the "Final Spike" train. If you look real close, you can see this baby has an air horn on it. An air horn that was used to greet me, my chase buddy Brandon, and several other railfans (including two from, fittingly enough, British Columbia) west of Loretto the day before!

Love Those Covered Wagons
Title:  Love Those Covered Wagons
Description:  Well, what else is there to say? Note the how the 2816's tool car (at left) is open, indicating the crew was doubtless utilizing the trove of spare parts no operating steam engine should leave home without. (Zoom shot, by the way, which was not taken from any CPKC property.)

Resting After An Epic Trip
Title:  Resting After An Epic Trip
Description:  After being blocked by darkness and late hours from getting any shots of The Empress on her trip up from Iowa, thanks to a tip from a friend, I found her at a very quiet Humboldt Yard early on the evening of the next day. The crew looks her over as the Steamtown rests after an epic run from Davenport, IA. (Zoom shot, not taken from any CPKC property, btw.)

Far From The State Fair-Worthy Crowd
Title:  Far From The State Fair-Worthy Crowd
Description:  I last saw the 2816 at St. Paul Union Depot, where she was surrounded by a Minnesota State Fair-worthy crowd. Sure was nice to see her on a quiet day far from such crowds. No doubt those two dudes on the crew were glad to be clear of the crowd too so they could do some work on their iron horse. (Zoom shot, by the way, and I didn't take it from any CPKC property.)

Nelson Would Be Pleased
Title:  Nelson Would Be Pleased
Description:  The 2816's crew tends to their lady of steel and fire early on a July evening at Humbodlt Yard. F. Nelson Blount, 2816's savior (and savior of many another steam engine's too!) would be pleased to see how she's back on the rails and better than ever. (Zoom shot, btw, and not taken from any CPKC property.)

Well, At Least The Paint's Vintage
Title:  Well, At Least The Paint's Vintage
Description:  CPKC's Canadian Pacific FP9 duo needed some help at one point on the southbound leg of the "Final Spike" tour, so heritage-painted SD70ACU 7013 was added. The vintage paint sure helps this brawny workhorse blend in with the train, which is undoubtedly why she was selected. (Zoom shot, BTW, and it wasn't taken from any CPKC property.)
