Ready To Roll
Title:  Ready To Roll
Description:  As the westbound train rolls into the distance, the hogger aboard the 4531 wastes no time powering up the 3 units of this eastbound grain job to get off the siding and back on the road.

The I & M
Title:  The I & M
Description:  When first built, this line stretched through rural countryoide. Now look at what surrounds it: county roads, office buildings, you name it, it's suburbia. Nevertheless, this portion of Milwaukee Road predecessor Minnesota Central (not the same as the one which built from Red Wing to Mankato two decades after this MC) which later became the Milwaukee Road I & M division still sees trains thanks to being operated by Progressive Rail. We are looking south from the Yankee Doodle Road grade crossing.

Forbidden Fruits
Title:  Forbidden Fruits
Description:  I deliberately worked the "no trespassing" sign into this shot taken, ironically enough, from public property. In this case, the parking lot for the Skate Park located right under Highway 169 at this point. The building with the dumpster is an addition to the old Milwaukee Road depot building.

Weedy But Thriving
Title:  Weedy But Thriving
Description:  Looking down towards the bridge over 35W on the ex-MNS High Line, one might jump to the conclusion this line is no better than one run by the old CNW. Wrong! You should see the traffic this line generates.

Hide And Seek
Title:  Hide And Seek
Description:  I had driven down from the parking garage at Bandana Square and parked near the shop building now housing the Kaplan school to dump trash from my Hardee's lunch when my ears caught the unmistakable rumble of a train! Shot didn't come out as clean as I'd wished, but still I caught this lone dash-9 toting a short string of mixed freight cars.

Short Line Bridge East End
Title:  Short Line Bridge East End
Description:  We're at the eastern end of a Milwaukee Road landmark: their Short Line bridge over Old Man River in Saint Paul, MN. Since vandals set off fireworks and caused a fire on the span several years ago, security on the bridge was beefed up from the simple sign on the left to the whole getup you see now. It seems to be working.

Walking On The Local Rail Trail?
Title:  Walking On The Local Rail Trail?
Description:  This is not a rail trail this gentleman is walking on. it is the spur track that juts off the ex Milwaukee Road Short Line currently being operated from Merriam Junction to the Southeast Minneapolis grain mills; the exact location of which is where there is a wye down along I-94. While it's true none of us are perfect, the less time spent on active rail lines the better.

Crossing Lyman Boulevard
Title:  Crossing Lyman Boulevard
Description:  The 20th Anniversary special to Glencoe crosses Lyman Boulevard. The driver on the red car on the right almost didn't make it, slamming on the brakes when finally it was noticed the gates were coming down and backing up a foot to get out of their way! Thank heavens nothing more happened than that. Would have been a crummy way to start the trip.
