Here is page two of a three-page article by Gus Welty entitled "De-dieselization." It was published originally in the September 1955 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 43. Photo Caption: "Back on the job, L-1 Mikado 1656 drums across the Kiskiminitas River with a 30-car freight on her way west to Kiskiminetas Junction over low-grade lines." Photo by Gus Welty. Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1656 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during January of 1917 and retired in November of 1956 after 39 years of faithful service.
