Taken out of service in 2018 for her 15-year overhaul, the in-house project took a hit from the Pandemic. She is better than half-way through her stay in the shop as the NYS&WT&HS crew performs nearly all of the work themselves in hopes of getting the 142 back on the main in 2022. Don't try this at home, folks, this is an undertaking of huge proportions... |

CCA 2-8-2 #202 - Canton & Carthage RR |
Description: |
Although this site does not recognize this reporting mark, the CC&A was a logging railroad in Mississippi between 1927-59. This Alco-Schenectady built Mikado was delivered originally to the Natchez, Columbia & Mobile RR but this boomer loco didn't stay there. According to the accompanying information from photographer C.W. Whitbeck, it was sold to Pearl River Valley Lumber Co. circa 1933, then resold to the Denkmann Lumber Co. in September of 1938, then resold again to Louisiana Eastern as their #10 before finally reaching the Canton & Carthage RR. After bouncing around the various logging railroads, it was finally scrapped in October, 1962. Here is 1955, it was a sharp looking locomotive. C.W. Whitbeck photo |

MILW 2-8-2 #326 |
Description: |
Nice example of a USRA heavyweight 2-8-2 Mikado built by Alco-Brooks in September of 1918. Oritinally it was marked CM&StP 8617, but in 1938 it was renumbered to MILW 326. After serving the Milwaukee Road for nearly 35 years, it was retired in June of 1953. Small discrepancy here - this photo is dated August of 1953 after its supposed retirement date of June, 1953 listed in the Alco records..There is another photo in this album of it sitting in the scrap line at Bensenville in June of 1953 so the photo is mismarked. Specs - L3 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine wt of 320,000 lb and tractive effort of 62,949 lb. This is a Burns photo. |

Description: |
Here is another photo diescrapancy - according to the ALCo records, MILW 326 was retired in June of 1953 but this photo is dated September of 1953 and looks to be ready to roll out on an assingment. There is another photo in this album of it sitting in the scrap line at Bensenville in June of 1953 so the photo is mismarked. Anyway, the loco was originally built as CM&StP 2-8-2 Mikado #8617 in September of 1918. In 1938 it was renumbered MILW 326 as it shows in this photo. After nearly 35 years of dedicated service, the loco was retired in june of 1953. Specs - L3 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine wt of 320,000 lb and tractive effort of 62,949 lb. This is a Burns photo. |
