CN local halted at Millview Dr. as it waits to enter the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 1 Feb. '14. Train was likely returning from Manitowoc. Until a few years ago, a train stopped here would have been hidden behind the Glatfelter Paper mill (formerly Bergstrom Paper, originally Winnebago Paper), which stood for well over a century (the oldest part of the original mill was constructed in 1874). The lead locomotive is parked under the remnants of the steam pipes that used to connect the paper mill to the now defunct Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant). |

The Canadian National switches the General Chemical facility in Menasha, WI. The industrial spur this is located on was once used to serve the Gilbert Paper Company mill in Menasha. Gilbert Paper was served by two spurs, the other spur came across from the other side of the Fox River, through U.S. Papers and served Gilberts and Banta Corp. Some of the cars spotedd at Gilbert Paper on that spur were on a trestle over the water. Milwaukee Road, Soo Line and Chicago and Northwestern could all be seen on the rails in this paper producing area prior to 1987. |

CN local crosses Depot Rd. as it heads northwest via former SOO rails at Dale, WI on 11 May '14. Train was headed for Waupaca, I believe. The station sign marks the site of the former depot. The ballast in the foreground is a remnant of the siding that used to pass behind the depot as well as service the feed mill (behind me). Half of the siding has been removed, but half remains as a spur. |

IC 3138 traverses the S-curve at the north end of the CN, former SOO, yard at Neenah, WI on 12 May '14. The remnants of the platform and foundation of the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are on the left. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened. |
