Painting Caption: "The common meeting ground of K-4 Pacifics and DD-1 electrics was Manhattan Transfer, an engine-change point just east of Newark whose high-level platforms could be reached only by rail. Trains commissioned Artist George Gloff to re-create that era." Depicted here are PRR engines #5426 and #24. #5426 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during February of 1927 and retired in August of 1956. #24 actually consists of #3980 and #3981. Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower; both were later transferred to the Long Island Rail Road and renumbered: #3980 became "360-A" and #3981 became "356-B."
