| Most of our second day on the line was spent learning how to "buffer up," that is, how to approach the brake van at the appropriate speed and then stop after gently meeting up with the vans buffers. Practicing this operation in full view of the sceptical stationmaster and his staff was nerve-wracking indeed! |
