CR GG1 #4800
GE, August, 1934 Originally built as PRR 499 but renumbered to 4800 in November of 1934. The loco was retired in January of 1980 and by the time this slide was taken had been moved to the RR Museum of Pennsylvania grounds. After a full cosmetic restoration in 1982 to its 1935 paint scheme, it is now a prominent display inside the museum. According to the museum, this historic loco pulled the first electrically powered trail out of Washington, D.C. and set a speed record at 102 mph. Later it achieved a top speed of 128 mph during braking tests in 1935. It accumulated approximately 5 million miles of service and wore nine different major paint schemes during its lifetime. ex-PC Slide taken by CR conductor Ken Taylor.
