Forty-four seat coach 4404 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1950 as Union Pacific 5436, one of 50 cars (5400-5449) in Lot no. 7617. They were the UP’s first coaches with outside-swing-hanger trucks and disc brakes. In 1970 Penn Central purchased six of the cars and renumbered them 3000-3005, and all of them went to Amtrak as 4400-4405. The 4404 was previously PC 3004, and was photographed on the PANAMA LIMITED. |
