Flying meet
Title:  Flying meet
Description:  Catching a meet on a double track railroad is a chancy prospect: you have to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. I was on this day, as BUME behind a set of NYSW power, meets TV 203 at speed. Shot from the car window.

Long tangent
Title:  Long tangent
Description:  Long for the Canisteo valley, which was not exactly Kansas. There was perhaps a mile or so of straight railroad near MP 320. We see TV 203 on it on a Saturday afternoon.

Down the hill
Title:  Down the hill
Description:  TV 203 rolls gently downhill into Attica with 170 platforms of double stacks. Despite its notoriety as the location of one of New Yorks more violent correctional facilities, it is a pretty area, and a pleasant town.

Description:  TV 203 rolls west with 170 mostly APL platforms as seen from the NY 352 overpass in Big Flats. The empty area parallel to the tracks on the left was once the DLW right of way.

Deep canyon, shallow river
Title:  Deep canyon, shallow river
Description:  The Canisteo, most of the time, is shallow enough you can walk across it. The gorge, however, is almost 1000 feet deep in spots. We see TV 203 along the river, deep in the gorge.

One of many
Title:  One of many
Description:  The Southern Tier was full of semaphore signals, though they were concentrated in several places. One of those places was in the Canisteo valley, between MP 306 and 320, where there were a number of them on both tracks 1 and 2. TV 203 passes an eastbound signal as it heads west near Cameron Mills.

Title:  Now its an Agway
Description:  TV 203 throttles up as it passes the old Erie station at Canisteo, now an Agway store. In a few years, it will be a concrete pad. Shoot those stations while theyre still around!!

Mid day light
Title:  Mid day light
Description:  Most of the time, Id catch trains here in the late afternoon, since Id be chasing after work. This is a great afternoon shot, as the train is rolling right into the sun. Middle of the day photos are not nose lit, but are nicely side lit. We see TV 203 in the side light as it comes around the big curve and under the NY 427 overpass.

Single soon
Title:  Single soon
Description:  Conrail had a plan to single track the Tier as far east as Binghamton. The plan was to start at CP River, roughly where the old NT tower was, and work east. This was the first section to be done-the segment from NT to Buffalo had been done by EL. We see TV 203 on the section to be single tracked from an old Erie steel bridge, now closed to traffic. There is a semaphore here on track 1, partly obscured by the diesel exhaust, which will be removed during the single track project. For now, it looks good as the train rolls down the Canaseraga Creek valley into Livingston County on the line as Erie built it. In a couple of years, track 2, on the right, will be gone.

Description:  TV 203 passes the Erie station at Silver Springs, itself looking good due to good care by the MOW crews who use it as a base of operations.

Flowers and a prop
Title:  Flowers and a prop
Description:  Many of the roadways were either planted with widlflowers, or they just grew there, which is pretty likely, and I tried to get them in a photo when possible. Waverly must have been built by a model railroader, as there are many building there that you would think were pulled off someones layout. Ted Clarks, behind the train, is one such, and always made a good photo prop from the access road to NY 17 from US 220.

Rolling around rattlesnake
