Title:
PRR 9716, BF-16, 1959
Description:
Volkmer. Here is an image of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 18 February 1959. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9716 and an unidentified Baldwin-built "A" unit. #9716 is a BF-16 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in March of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966. This A-A set is serving as tail-end pushers for a fully-loaded mineral train that will soon pass through the New Portage Tunnel in its way down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Photo taken from the State Route 53 Bridge. William E. Burket Collection.
